No doubt inspired by a lifetime of cold Canadian winters, Gab Bois has designed a dream out of a winterized Converse: a remote control for winter weather built right into the sole of the shoe.
Having made allusion to winter frigidity in her past work, including a memorable image of an ice cream cone topped with a heaping scoop of grey, street slush and held in a frozen grip between bright red fingertips, Gab Bois knows how to make a statement when it comes to chilly temperatures.
As an artist, Gab creates memorable, impactful imagery with day-to-day, familiar objects. She adorns her body and surroundings with her work, creating tops, bras, pants, and jewellery with materials ranging from fruits to flowers to technological hardware. You might recognize her evocative images from her wildly popular Instagram, as well as her notable collaborations with industry giants, including SSENSE, Nike, and Coach, to name only a few.
At Little Burgundy, we were especially inspired by her series of dynamic photographs that made art out of the soles of various shoes. She has created soles to serve drinks, to make calls, and to store daily necessities. We were excited by the possibilities of what Gab could create with us, given Little Burgundy’s extensive and iconic range of footwear. And so, the Weather Remote Converse was born.
While a real-life winter weather remote control may still be too good to be true, the rugged winter Converse series is totally for real and can offer tangible help with navigating the winter ahead. The weather will happen no matter what, but the right footwear can provide comfort and warmth throughout the freezing winter months.
