“Nothing Moves Without Imagination”, a podcast initiated by the Round Table on Black History Month and presented by Little Burgundy for Conversations Noires.Nothing Moves Without Imagination” is a series of conversations in which artists share their creative process. Facilitated by Joanna Chevalier from Never Was Average, each episode focuses on the sources of inspiration and stories that shape the imagination of these creative people.

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

EPISODE 1 – INSIDE THE MIND OF A MULTI-HYPHENATE

A conversation with IAMNOTMYHISTORY

 

 

 

         In this first episode, your host Joanna Chevalier, is having a conversation with IAMNOTMYHISTORY, a multi-hyphenate from Montreal/Tiohti:àkel using sights and sounds to convey messages and moods. Her eclectic taste in music and genre-blending DJ sets stem from her background in fashion, creative communities and Trinidadian roots. 

 

         With IAMNOTMYHISTORY, we’re talking about why she decided to create a Tumblr account, her sources of inspiration as a black creative woman and how to stay curious, her relationship with social media, why collaborating with other artists matters so much to her, her creative process when creating music mix, and the importance of remaining ourselves.

EPISODE 2 – MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

A conversation with NKUSI

 

 

 

 

        In this second episode, your host Joanna Chevalier is in conversation with NKUSI. Producer, beatmaker and DJ from Rwanda, NKUSI is an artist based in Montréal/Tiohti:àke whose style mixes hip-hop with hints of soul and electronica. NKUSI has collaborated with many artists and has taken part in the development of social entrepreneurship projects such as Transition Radicale. In 2022, he appears on SOCAN’s list of five beatmakers to watch. 

 

      Alongside Joanna, NKUSI shares his relationship with music and how he was introduced to rap. He also dives into the producers he finds inspiring, what intuition means for him as an artist, what makes a good collaboration between artists, reading, and how it’s important for him to find his inner child in order to create.

EPISODE 3 – ARCHIVES THAT MIRROR HISTORY

A conversation with G L O W Z I

 

 

 

 

 

        In this third episode, your host, Joanna Chevalier, is in conversation with GLOWZI. Based in Montreal/Tiohti:àke, GLOWZI is an interdisciplinary artist. Their never ending curiosity pushes them to work with different mediums in a way that explores their creativity and expands their funky and spicy universe. Their art forms of choice include collage, paint, graphic design, videos, photography and music. 

 

    Alongside Joanna, GLOWZI shares the reason why they identify as an “interdisciplinary” artist, their process in the creation of collages and the place archives hold in their work. They also talk about minimalism, the way they overcome creative blocks and the importance of taking your time when you make art
